Rosslyn Chapel

Rosslyn Chapel stands at the edge of the steeply wooded Esk Valley . A rocky narrow gorge with a fast flowing water below gives Rosslyn its name . It has an incredible view of Rosslyn Castle . Before the chapel , this spot was the final destination of the pilgrimage of the "Seven sites of the Apocalypse" . The ground that Rosslyn Chapel stands on was used by Druids , Pagans and Gnostics who fully realized the sacred energy of this land centuries before William St. Clair the last Prince of Orkney decided to build this chapel in 1446 .This chapel is famous world wide for the mystery and magic that surrounds the carvings inside . It is said we will never in our own time decipher the coding in its masonry . The one piece of masonry appealing to visitors is "The Apprentice's Pillar". The master mason who was to carve this pillar left to go abroad and study with other masters to perfect his carving skills before attempting to carve this work of art . When he came back from his travels , he had found that his apprentice had carved the pillar to perfection . The master mason bludgeoned the apprentice to death inside the chapel . Many of the biblical stories are portrayed on the walls , and there are numerous references to the "Knights Templar" and "Freemasonry" . There are also Pagan symbols throughout and Rosslyn Chapel has the largest number of "Green Men" carvings found in any Medieval building . There are carvings of Flora and Fauna from the New World that predate the discovery of land by Columbus by one hundred years . Underneath the chapels crypt is said to be a room encased in metal the exact size of the "Holy of Holy's" that houses the "Jesus Scrolls" saved and hidden by the protectors called the "Knights Templar". Whatever spiritual path you follow in life , you must visit this incredibly spiritual place . A feeling of rebirth of consciousness and lost knowledge being tapped into by your conscious is an incredible experience . My thanks to Sharon Gill who started me on this pilgrimage to this special place .
